Educational and research activities of the School of Chemical Engineering are divided in four Departments, in which Laboratories are also allocated. Specifically, Departments and Laboratories are the following:

  1. Application and optimization of analytical methods in chemical parameters specification in environmental samples, application of technologies in water treatment, industrial inorganic raw materials. Resarch of inorganic compounds/materials properties.
  2. Bioinorganic chemistry, environmental chemistry, electrochemistry, photocatalysis. Composition of aliphatic, aromatic, heterocyclic, organometallic compounds – identification – biological activity research – applications.
  3. Bioorganic chemistry, natural products – isolation – biological activity, fatty acids, semi-composition of biologically active molecules. Biotechnology – new products and deconstruction of toxic organic materials. System of pharmaceutical substances’ carriers.
  4. Physical chemistry of polymers, interfaces and solutions. Web-mechanics, biomaterials, biosensors. Hypercritical fluids and ionic liquids. Nanocompound materials. Static, dynamic and thermodynamic properties of polymers, self-organization of relaxed matter.

  1. Design, Dynamic Analysis, Control and Optimization of Chemical Systems. Nanostructures – Nanotechnology – Transfer and release of substances (drug-gene delivery) – Biocatalysis and enzymatic reactions.
  2. Design and study of physical & chemical processes on basic and macroscopic level using nanofluids and surface active agents. Study of multiphase flows and use/development of advanced non-invasive experimental techniques. Technical and Economical Plant Design Projects aiming best use of natural sources, use of alternative energy forms and production of new chemical products (Sustainable Chemical Technology).
  3. Renewable energy sources with emphasis on Biomatter and Waste. Study of evaporation and pyrolysis for energy, biofuels, H2 and materials production. Design of reactors of thermochemical conversion of biomatter and waste and escalation of reactor’s size. Technical and Economical Design Projects. Modeling and simulation of thermochemical processes. Waste Recycling.

  1. Transport Phenomena and Chemical Engineering Unit Operations. Structure and dynamics of turbulent flow, heat and mass convective transfer, mixing, dispersion in gases, turbulent combustion, molecular mass transfer in polymer solutions. Development of multiple sensors for turbulent transverse flows, flow visualization. Hydrodynamics of colloid systems, interfacial phenomena, membrane technology.
  2. Thermophysical properties of fluids and solids. Measurements and correlations. Development of methods for exact measurement of liquids, gases and solids thermal conductivity. Development of methods for exact measurement of liquids and gases viscosity. Hydrocarbon, alcohol and alternative coolants. Melt metals. Insulating solids. Standard measurements. Metrology.
  3. Dispersion of gas pollutants. Urban pollution measurements. Urban pollution simulation. Plants danger analysis. Simulation of explosion and fire consequences.
