History

The Department of Chemical Engineering in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki started its operation in 1972.
The Department staff is classified into four Divisions that cover its main areas of educational, scientific and research activity:
– Division of Chemistry
– Division of Analysis, Design and Control of Chemical Processes and Plants
– Division of Unit Operations and Applied Thermodynamics
– Division of Technologies
Initially the School was housed in a 3-floor building of area 2650 m2, known as Building C, which today houses the Division of Chemistry. In 1984 the Department obtained an additional office- and laboratory space of 3400 m2 in the first three floors of the new Building D, as well as a large laboratory in the basement of the same building. Finally, in 2003, 3500 m2 were added in building E13, where the new department Computer Center was created in its basement. The Lecture rooms, of additional 1000 m2, are located in the central area of the Engineering Building.
The department faculty includes 14 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, and 6 Assistant Professors. There is also a number of special teaching, technical and administrative personnel.
The number of first year students in the year 2022-2023 was 155, while the total number of registered students today is 1300
