Article 1: Purpose – Scope of Application

1.1. This regulation governs the institution and responsibilities of the academic advisor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The purpose of this institution is to provide specialized support to the students of the Department in matters such as their academic orientation, academic performance, and career goals. Simultaneously, it ensures that the students of the Department have access to alternative advisory resources.

1.2. This regulation aims to contribute to the provision of high-quality guidance by the academic advisors of the Department of Chemical Engineering to the students and holds them accountable for their performance and behavior.

1.3. This academic advisor regulation applies to postgraduate students of the Master’s Program in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering: Health & Food.

Article 2: Appointment and Responsibilities of the Academic Advisor

With the commencement of the Master’s Program, a permanent member of the Teaching and Research Staff (T&RS) who teaches in the Master’s Program is appointed as the academic advisor for each postgraduate student by the Coordinating Committee of the Master’s Program. The appointment includes criteria such as qualifications, experience, and workload. Their role is to monitor the progress of students’ studies, be informed by the instructors about any continuous absences of students under their responsibility and inform them (through the Secretariat) that such absence may lead to failure in the course. Additionally, the academic advisor assists in the selection of the master’s thesis, considering the research interests of the postgraduate student. Postgraduate students are required to contact their academic advisor for any problem that may affect the smooth progress of their studies. The Academic Advisor provides the necessary guidance to the postgraduate student to meet the requirements of the Master’s Program. The Academic Advisor for Studies ensures regular meetings with the postgraduate students they supervise, no less than twice per semester. Among their duties are:

• Identifying the needs and research interests of the postgraduate student, supporting their inclinations and skills, and encouraging them to pursue areas that suit them.
• Informing and facilitating the contacts of the postgraduate student with the collective bodies of the Master’s Program and the administration services.
• Providing assistance in preparing the individual semester study plan and determining the topic of the master’s thesis.
• Identifying students who owe many courses.
• Planning and preparing a plan for these students.

The teaching staff, administrative staff, and relevant services of the University collaborate and support the Academic Advisors in their work, taking into account their information, observations, suggestions, and requests for any deficiencies or malfunctions that create problems for the students and any proposals for addressing them.

Article 3: Confidentiality and Ethics

Academic advisors adhere to the rules of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki regarding confidentiality and ethics, including requirements for maintaining the confidentiality of students’ information, avoiding conflicts of interest, and adhering to a code of ethics.

Article 4: Entry into Force

This regulation comes into force after its approval by the Department’s assembly.
